WHEN YOU WEAR YOUR WATCH IN WATER
Every watch has a specific level of water resistance, indicated in meters (m) or atmospheres (ATM). These values do not represent the actual depth to which a watch can be submerged, but rather the pressure level that the case can withstand under laboratory testing. Regular water-resistance testing – at least once a year, especially before the summer season – is essential, as gaskets age and lose elasticity over time.
| Marking | Atmospheres (ATM) | Use / Protection |
|---|---|---|
| Water Resistant (30 m) | 3 ATM | Protection from rain and hand washing. Not suitable for submersion. |
| 50 m | 5 ATM | Suitable for showering and light swimming, but not diving. |
| 100 m | 10 ATM | Good for swimming and snorkeling, not for scuba diving. |
| 200 m | 20 ATM | Suitable for underwater swimming and recreational diving. |
| 300+ m | 30+ ATM | Professional diver’s watches. |
Gaskets should be replaced during each maintenance or when the case is opened. After impact, repair, or battery replacement, a new water-resistance test is mandatory. Do not operate buttons or the crown underwater unless specified by the manufacturer.
Water resistance testing can be performed exclusively at our ShadiaN – Watchmakers service center, equipped with professional instruments for pressure, vacuum, and immersion simulation testing.
